No Dig Novice

Hi, my name is Mark Wiltshire and I am the secretary of Heart of England in Bloom.

I have over 42 years experience in horticulture. I trained at Hartpury College doing a day release course Level 1, 2 & 3 in General Horticulture. I started work at St Mary's College in Cheltenham, I eventually retired from Cheltenham Borough Council in 2016 after 33 years.

One of my duties at the College was to look after the vegetable and cut flower plots, in total an excess of one and a half acres, all hand dug in Autumn incorporating FYM.

I decided that while we are in these difficult times and I have some spare time that I would write an allotment blog.

I have had my allotment in Cheltenham for 3 years now, still digging in the manure in the Autumn. I have to admit I am a no dig sceptic, it goes against all of my training and experience. This winter I decided to investigated the no dig policy. There is so much information out there, YouTube is an excellent source, I found Charles Dowding's videos to be excellent and very easy to follow https://charlesdowding.co.uk/

That's all for today I will post photos of my plot and seedlings that I have growing in the next couple of days, remember I am a total novice so if any of you have any suggestions please let me have them.
