Changes to categories and nominations for the 2018 judging year
Core categories
Following a comprehensive review of categories and participation in the Britain Bloom programme and National competition, the Bloom Federation has approved the following changes to the National competition.
The BIDs category is being opened up to include town and city centres. This means that Regional entries in either a Town Centre or City Centre category will be eligible for nomination into this category at National level. A criteria review will be carried out by Roger Burnett and Peter Holman, based on the existing BIDs criteria.
Due to the low number of participants at National level, it has been decided that the following categories will be merged into new categories.
City and Large City will be combined into a single City category. The electoral role band for this category is 100,001+
Small Village and Village will be combined into a single Village Category. The electoral role band for this category is 0 – 1000
Nominations
In order to simplify the nomination process, and provide greater opportunity for Regions to nominate into categories, the following has been agreed:
All Regions may nominate up to 5 entries into any categories, but no more than one entry into each.
We anticipate that, as in previous years, we will be able to offer a second round of nominations into specific categories which are undersubscribed. Second round nominations will be offered out to Regions and Nations based on the total number of core category entries for the previous year, with priority given to those Regions with the highest number of entries.
Champion of Champions
Seven entries have been selected to be invited to enter the Champion of Champions category for 2018. Each of these entries has achieved Gold standard across each of the three scoring criteria sections, has maintained a consistently high standard over the last four years, and has not entered the Champion of Champions category in the last two years.
The relevant Regions and Nations will be contacted separately and asked to invite these groups to enter the 2018 competition.
